Root Cause The disconnect arises because eval metrics are typically defined by the engineering team in isolation, without an explicit, documented mapping to the business KPIs – CSAT, conversion, cost, compliance – they’re ultimately meant to serve, so a task metric can improve while the outcome it was supposed to proxy moves in the opposite direction unnoticed. long, thorough, hedge-everything answers that are technically correct. Task eval score
rises each release. But conversion rate quietly drops 8% over two months because
customers abandon the verbose responses before reaching a purchase decision, and CSAT
comments start mentioning "too much information." No one notices because the eval
dashboard only tracks task accuracy, never conversion or CSAT.
